LOUISVILLE, KY – On Wednesday, September 8, 2004, the Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) began razing buildings within the Clarksdale Public Housing Development. Initial demolition occurrred in the blocks bounded by Jefferson, Hancock, Liberty and Clay streets, which includes two residential buildings and the East Louisville Recreation Center.

Contractors are providing security fencing around the area, and their operations will run from 7:30AM – 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.

“We want to work with the neighbors to make sure that disruption is kept to a minimum during this time,” said LMHA Executive Director Tim Barry. “We hope area businesses and residents will be patient as we begin this revitalization process.”

Scheduled for completion within five years, the Clarksdale HOPE VI will ultimately result in about a $190 million investment through a public-private partnership to build a combination of apartments and single-family homes.
